Compassionate, in-home ostomy care management across our service area, supporting comfort, confidence, and independence as you adjust to life with an ostomy.

1. What is an Ostomy?

If you or someone you love is navigating life after ostomy surgery, professional ostomy care management across our service area can make a meaningful difference in comfort, confidence, and independence. An ostomy is a surgical opening created in the abdomen that allows waste to exit the body into an external pouch. Ostomies are performed for many reasons, including colorectal cancer, Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, bladder cancer, or bowel obstruction.

Living with an ostomy takes adjustment. Although the physical and emotional changes can feel overwhelming at first, with the right support and education most people go on to live full, active, and confident lives.

Types of Ostomies.

  • A colostomy brings part of the colon to the surface of the abdomen. As a result, it most commonly relates to colorectal cancer or bowel disease.
  • An ileostomy brings the small intestine to the surface of the abdomen. It often occurs because of Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis.
  • A urostomy redirects urine out of the body when the bladder no longer functions. This is most common following bladder cancer surgery.
